I was getting laser hair removal treatment on my face the other day… I can’t remember if I told you guys that…. but Hallelujah! Great balls of fire! 31st birthday gift from poobear! Hopefully y’all will be hearing me complain less and less about my extensive hair issues I’ve got. We all know that’s getting old…. But ANYWAYS! When I was getting my laser hair removal, my sweet technician who was performing the procedure mentioned her boyfriend was sick… and my heart sank. I know they’re in their early 20’s and I was praying cancer wasn’t the diagnosis. I calmly and thoughtfully asked, ‘Will he be alright?’… and she said he had cancer. I teared up but quickly composed myself because it’s not all about me all the damn time.. and we got to talking. She doesn’t know his prognosis, but she did mention how a new CBD oil he was using was helping shrink his tumor (So happy! I’ll see her tomorrow, so I’ll be sure to ask how he’s doing!). I hadn’t really heard of CBD oil… I mean I guess I had, but I didn’t know too much about it. She explained it all to me and then casually mentioned, ‘It’s great for stress too’. Kind of random, but hell, maybe I look like a stressed mess every day, so that makes sense 😉 Since high cortisol is my thing, I called the doctor when I got back to my house, to not take away the attention from the technician and her sad situation and I asked if it would be good for me. I ordered a tincture of it ($119, not cheap) and have been using it every morning. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you all about it here soon (and it’s totally legal!). So then, I’m in California the other week visiting my brother and his wife and she says, ‘Check out my CBD face lotion’… I’m like, ‘My god, it’s EVERYWHERE!’. We saw it all around the town! In shops, on counters, it was everywhere! People be loving it!
So what is all this CBD goodness you ask!? We’re talking about cannabidoil, or CBD for short, the non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant. According to a 2013 study published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, CBD benefits including acting in some experimental models as an anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antioxidant, antiemetic, anxiolytic and antipsychotic agent, and is therefore a potential medicine for the treatment of neuroinflammation, epilepsy, oxidative injury, vomiting and nausea, anxiety (that includes my OCD Cheeky I’m thinking about too) and schizophrenia.
I’ve been mostly using it for anxiety, though the other day on the flight, I used it for nausea. Come to think of it, I actually didn’t even take a Dramamine or have to wear my nausea bracelet… hmm.. pretty impressive. It has helped me immensely and most importantly, it’s helping the gals boyfriend (I know her name, but thought I’d keep it private). So with all that said, if you’ve got any of the conditions above, it may be something to look into it. But since we’re a skincare blog, we thought we could focus on the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties of CBD and see where that gets us!
