Hair. We put so much effort into getting it perfect. From buying shampoos and conditioners that promise to bring life back to our limp hair to wrangling blow-dryers and styling tools for major volume, we’ve pretty much tried everything. But what if there were some tips that improved the state of your strands in an instant? Ahead, we’ve rounded up some of the best (and easiest) ways to transform your hair ASAP.
1. Sleep on Silk
Cotton pillowcases can draw moisture out of your hair, making it frizzy and dry. Switch to a silk pillowcase and wake up to smoother hair with less breakage. Bonus? Switching to a silk pillowcase can prevent you from getting those dreaded sleep wrinkles.
2. Rinse With Filtered Water
Your shower could be the cause of dry, frizzy hair and even an irritated scalp. The culprit? Chlorine. Try switching your showerhead to one that has a filter, and say hello to manageable hair.
3. Deep-Condition Your Hair
From colouring to using the hairdryer on the highest setting to get the job done quicker, we put our hair through a lot. Give your hair back some moisture with a weekly hydrating mask—like this one by Leonor Greyl which is the ultimate luxurious treat. For a good drugstore option, try Organic Surge 2-Minute Moisture Mask. Or go the DIY route and simply slather in some coconut oil—you can either leave it in and rinse out, or sleep with it in overnight (just lay a towel over your pillowcase so it doesn’t get stained).
4. Beat Frizz
Frizzy hair seems to never really go away. No matter how many products we use, it always seems to come back. Eliminate frizzies for good by applying a leave-in conditioner to damp hair after the shower, then twisting it into a loose bun before going to bed. The next morning, you’ll wake up to smooth and shiny hair. (It’s called “,” and every curly haired girl should know it.) For a beachier look, try loose braids instead.
5. Rinse With Vinegar
All the products we put on our hair can weigh it down and make our strands look dull. Apple cider vinegar removes hair-product buildup without stripping it of its natural oils. It also seals the hair cuticle, making strands shinier and less prone to split ends. Mix one tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar for every eight ounces of water. After shampooing, pour the mixture onto hair and leave it in for a minute; then rinse thoroughly.
6. Add Shine
Make hair instantly shine at home with a gloss, a semipermanent treatment that fills and closes the cuticle, leaving your strands super shiny and smooth. Perfect for those with coloured hair, glosses are available in a variety of colors (including clear) for a perfect match. We love John Frieda’s treatment for brunettes or try Charles Worthington’s Colour Revive Mousse which is clear and will add shine to any hair colour.
